Communication: The Role & Impact of Technology

It is an administrator’s job to set the example. You cannot expect teachers to use technology in the classroom if you are not using technology yourself. Having knowledge of different applications/resources will help an administrator educate their staff on the newest and best technology available for the classroom. It is better to show someone an example rather than simply suggesting it.

As a leader an administrator should explain the importance of technology with their staff. They should provide their staff with various sites that could be useful, demonstrate how they are used and hold teachers accountable for using technology within their classrooms. Teachers need to know that technology is a tool for learning not the only way a student should learn. Technology can and should also be a tool for assessing student learning. Educators should use technology as a tool to keep in touch with parents and community members updating them on what is going on in their classroom. Utilizing technology and all of the applications that are out there an educator can easily inform several people at once, it is much easier than making phone calls and less costly than sending home paper notes. If an administrator emphasizes and displays the importance of technology use within the school system the whole organization will progress and flourish.
